The Floods: A Flashback Two year later, What I saw: Or, my view of the floods: day 2

Well, day 1 finished with very little excitement. It was a dull day. Day 2, not so much.
December 1st was the day the dams were opened, and December 1st the day its effects were felt.

I woke up a little late. Last evening, we had heard that the next day was to be a holiday. That was how it was, a holiday, announced just the day before. Well, we had a breakfast of whatever we could throw together, and I went outside for quite a bit, inspecting the well level, and just looking at the skies for any further rains. The morning was decent, with little to no flooding, but we were getting reports from my cousins, in Kottivakkam about how the water had started entering the compound, and was slowly lapping into the house. The day passed very slowly after that.
Afternoon we got an update from our cousins in Saidapet, Sri nagar colony. Water had entered their house, ground floor, so with the dog and some supplies, they had gone to the 2nd floor where my grandparents stayed, and were there now, watching the water level on the ground rise. They had hoped that water would only enter about an inch into the compound, but unfortunately, it had gone on rising, They had a mini-fridge stocked and ready on the first floor, but after water had reached a foot in the ground floor, they grabbed what they could and headed to the second floor(which is not connected through the inside.
They were now sitting there, with no current, little food, phones that were slowly dying, no current, few candles, but enough clothes to tide them through a couple of days. Luckily my grandparents had a three bedroom place. Luckily their live-in cook was out of town at that time. Unluckily, my aunt was in the US.
She messaged and called frequently, both houses. That day(her night) was taken up in messaging and worrying. That night(her day) was spent by her in meetings.
That afternoon, while my phone charged on the one plugpoint that had inverter(somehow our inverter had kept on going. Downstairs, not upstairs. Upstairs had gone in the morning. ), I typed out a message to my cousin in the half gloom, asking how they were. She said they were fine, for now. My follow up message never got delivered.
That evening, we checked up on relatives. My kottivakkam cousins had a couple of inches water inside the house. We urged them to come over. Our garden was dry, except during the time it rained, and our house, except for being a little chilly, was absolutely OK.
They however, declined. Unfortunately, the water was still rising there.
My grandaunt on the beach in thiruvanmiyur was fine. She was on the first floor, besides which, the beach areas hardly got any flooding.
My granduncle in Gandhi nagar was just as badly off as we were.
My fathers friend in Ashok nagar was flooded in. Water had breached a bund in the Adayar river behind the theatre there, and Ashok nagar was flooded. The ground floor was gone.

That night, we slept uneasy. I for one wanted to walk the streets, see what was going on, what i could do, take pictures. Cabin fever had taken me badly. On the other hand, we were worrying about the family in Saidapet, Sri Nagar colony, less than 100m away from the river. What was happening to them? What were they doing? How were they managing?
